Ringing in the New Year

Merry New Year!

This New Year's Eve brought in some awful weather. Rain and then dropping temps lead to road conditions that were terrible. A drive that usually takes about 2:15 took almost 3:30 hours. :( Tonight, there was a bad accident on the interstate that killed one person too. I hope all those crazy party people, keep a head on and drive safe.

There is something about a new, fresh calendar and the promise of a resolution that makes me happy.

Let's be honest. It's the time of year that I write the most on a blog.
Resolution #1) Blog. Duh. That's why I'm here.
Resolution #2) Like most other Americans, LOSE WEIGHT--I've been working on this one for the last few months though. So, I guess, I resolve to keep losing weight.
Resolution #3) Start a gratitude journal. I've read that people who keep journals are generally happier people. Who wouldn't want to be happier?
Resolution #4) Here it comes people--the real one: Stop belching in front of my kids.'s a bad habit and the kids are getting older and every once in a while, my son will just come out with a whopper. In my head I'm thinking, "Man, that was awesome", but I need to be responsible and I don't want him to just let one fly in the middle of a nice restaurant or when we're at a friend's home.

So there you go, people. I resolve!

Happy 2011!

Homemade Christmas Insanity

I decided in the middle of November that this year we'd make our Christmas tree ornaments and decorations. Time to switch it up, I guess. Maybe help the kids feel more involved? Maybe a little insanity? I don't know. So the tree went up the Monday before Thanksgiving, much earlier than usual. (On a side note: We have an artificial tree because of our allergies). We've been working and we've made some pretty slick ornaments.
I picked up some little wooden ornaments that the kids colored with markers--see the great cups of cocoa? I made the cute little gingerbread girl in the center and the garland is made up of snips of recycled, felted sweaters and some jingle bells.

I love my girl. I think she's a cutie pie.
Recycled sweater stockings, but for some reason the color is pretty awful.
My mitten garland--I've got to learn how to use the camera for the blog now. I swear, people...this garland is cute. That and I promise to work on my blog photo skills--PROMISE!
See. Crafty. Me. :)

Working on it...

I wouldn't call myself a serial blogger, because I'm not. I just have a few commitment issues to deal with. Life, as you all know, gets a little hectic and the first thing to go seems to be my blogging. I've found a blog title, that I think sums up exactly what I need in a blog. ALL SORTS OF RANDOM.

I'm a woman.
I'm crafty.
I'm a mom.
I'm a wife.
I'm a daughter.
I'm a sister.
I'm a teacher.
I'm silly.
I'm random.

So, I'm working on getting a blog that I'll stick to and that I know how to technically deal with. I'm not particularly computer savvy, but when I need it (badly), I have a great husband to which I seek council.

So, here I am. My name is Janelle.
